FilmAid Kenya is proud to launch our new Mobile Cinema Initiative, designed to bring life-saving information and transformative stories to communities in the most remote and underserved areas of Turkana and Garissa counties.
Equipped with solar-powered projectors, inflatable screens, and portable sound systems, our three mobile cinema units can reach areas where even basic infrastructure is lacking. Each unit travels with a trained facilitator who leads post-screening discussions and connects community members with local services.
In its first three months, the initiative has reached over 15,000 people across 45 villages. The screenings cover topics including flood preparedness, cholera prevention, gender-based violence awareness, and peaceful conflict resolution.
"We arrived in a village that had never had a film screening before," recalls Mobile Cinema Coordinator Fatuma Ali. "Within minutes of setting up, the entire village — children, elders, women, men — had gathered. The engagement was incredible. People stayed for two hours after the screening, discussing what they had seen and asking how they could apply the lessons."
The mobile cinema units are also being used to screen locally produced content, ensuring that the stories shown are reflective of the communities' own experiences and aspirations.
